Protective Styles

I’ve neglected the Hair and Makeup section of byTisha for quite some time now. Three months to be exact. I’m back with some updates!

For the past few months, I haven’t been too excited to style my hair. Wash day actually became an entire day. Detangling, moisturizing and styling became a chore. I no longer enjoyed doing my hair. I realized the longer my hair gets, the more time I have to dedicate to it. I didn’t want to do that. So I decided to try three different protective styles.

The first was crochet braids. Yes, I jumped on the bandwagon. It was nice…while it lasted. This style was supposed to be easy to install and last for a weeks. It wasn’t easy to install and it only lasted a couple weeks. Will I try it again? Still on the fence about it.

My next style was twists. I woke up one day and asked my mom to do them for me. About 4 hours later we were done. This was my first time getting my hair twisted in years. I think the last time I was in middle school! I loved this style and I kept it in for about 6 weeks.

Before I came to New York, I knew I didn’t want to do my hair. I didn’t want to style it everyday, twist it at night, or deep condition every weekend. I wanted to try a new style so I asked my Mom to do box braids. She said not at first, but caved in. Thank God she did because these braids have made my life so easy!

I’ve had these braids in for about seven weeks now, and to be honest with you, I’ve neglected my hair. I did a protein treatment, moisturized and sealed before they were installed. That process reoccurred twice in the past seven weeks. I didn’t give my hair the TLC it needed with oils and moisturizing. I’m kind of nervous to take the braids out. What will happen to my hair? If something crazy does happen, I can only be mad at myself. If you get a protective style, don’t be like me. Be better than me lol.

I’ll come back with an update in a couple days after I’ve taken the braids out. Fingers crossed
